This letter was sent to Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson on Saturday and a copy was sent to My Edmonds News Monday for publication.
Dear Mr. Mayor,
In my first letter on Dec. 8, 2020, I asked, based on my professional knowledge, for caution and to postpone the accelerated appointment of the chief of police nominee, just becoming aware of the U.S. District Court testimony a few hours before the vote. Many residents echoed the same, our voices were disregarded.
In my second letter of Dec. 15, 2020 to you and the council president, several questions were asked and remain unanswered. Some have been addressed through research and the media, but not directly by your office. However, the residents of this community are waiting for some answers. Yes, we understand your HR director has contacted the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs to assist with the search process this time, they declined due to the political mess. And

South County Fire crews responded early Wednesday morning to a blaze at the Firdale Market in Edmonds’ Firdale Village.
Two people one inside the market and one in a neighboring building got out safely, South County Fire spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.
The 911 dispatch center began receiving multiple reports of smoke and flames coming from the building, starting at 4:42 a.m., Hynes said. The fire quickly went to a second alarm, and the Shoreline Fire Department responded to assist, she added.

A police chief candidate selected due to his skin color is now out of the job after only a week. Rather than fix the problem that caused this mess, the city’s mayor is tripling down on his racist policies.
The controversy is unfolding in the city of Edmonds, where its condescending, racist Mayor Mike Nelson and enablers on the all-white city council decided to hire (and rescind employment opportunities) on the basis of race. They didn’t even try to hide it.

Selecting a police chief is one of the most important appointments city leadership will make. In many cases police will be the first and only contact most citizens have with a representative of the city. These contacts will be both positive and negative and will reflect directly on the image of the city. Credible, professional and effective forward- looking police leadership of these officers is critical.
The mayor and council executed a selection process that was unprofessional. It appears there was an intentional deception concerning the qualifications of the nominee. When questioned by responsible members of the council, the mayor and human resources director responded angrily, and defensively. Then four council members bulldozed the vote.
