Edmonds Diversity Commission, Arts Commission partner to offer small grants

MY EDMONDS NEWS Posted: May 10, 2021 199 The City of Edmonds Diversity Commission and the City of Edmonds Arts Commission are partnering to offer small grants for the second half of 2021. The diversity commission’s small grants program is aimed at funding community programs, events and/or activities that engage, educate or involve the Edmonds community in ways that promote diversity, equity and inclusion. The arts commission is augmenting the funds available in 2021 to support the goals of the diversity commission and encourage efforts to promote diversity and equity through art and expand access to the arts for all. Individuals, local not-for-profit groups, agencies or organizations are encouraged to apply for small grants of up to $500. A total of $2,100 is available.

Presented by the City of Edmonds Arts Commission. “As the Earth Turns” is a science-fiction silent film by former Seattle filmmaker Richard Lyford. It is one of several films Lyford made before finding success with Walt Disney Studios in the 1940s. As with most of Lyford’s early films, it was presumed lost until it was discovered in the basement of his former Seattle home over 80 years later.

MY EDMONDS NEWS Posted: April 23, 2021 Shanti Seidel Molina The Cascade Symphony Orchestra will present “Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto,” its sixth and final virtual concert of the 2020-21 season, on Monday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. This online music program, as has been the case for all previous CSO musicales this season, is presented free of charge through the generosity of orchestra donors and patrons. Because all in-person concerts for the season were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the symphony has produced five online shows – including one for children. Classical KING FM (98.1) personality Dave Beck will open the May 3 CSO virtual program conversing with Cascade Symphony music director Michael Miropolsky. That will be followed by music for the season.
