Lions select P Ford first overall in Global Draft
The BC Lions selected Australian punter Jake Ford first overall in the Canadian Football League Global Draft. Ford, who most recently played in the Spring League in 2020, was the first of four Australian punters to be taken in the first round.

The BC Lions selected Australian punter Jake Ford first overall in the Canadian Football League Global Draft.
“I’m really excited to get back to the west coast,” Ford said after being selected first overall.
“I visited Vancouver in 2016 and just fell in love with it. Talking with coach Campbell and coach Yanowsky and hearing what they have planned for me has me even more thrilled for the opportunity to wear Lions orange.”

The CFL’s own schedule has their first game in Alberta as early as May 23, with the BC Lions playing the Calgary Stampeders. Before this game can even take place there are three reasonable things that must happen. First, the players have to report to training camp. Second, the American players have to cross the border into Canada and go through their quarantine period. Third, all CFL players who did not play professional football in 2020 or to date in 2021 have to give fair termination notice to their interim employers. Despite having no CFL games in 2020 and the CFL administration having over an entire year to plan a “Return-To-Play Critical Path,” it seems the CFL has again let the clock run out on another season with no guidance to what the CFL players should do regarding their employment or an announcement on a “bubble strategy” for the beginning of the season. TORONTO - Jake Ford was the first of four Australian punters selected in the first round of the CFL global draft Thursday.
Ford was taken No. 1 overall by the B.C. Lions. Compatriots Joseph Zema (sixth overall by Montreal), Cody Grace (No. 7 by Calgary) and Joel Whitford (No. 8 by Hamilton) also went in the first round.
Steven Nielsen, a six-foot-eight, 307-pound offensive lineman from Denmark who played collegiately at Eastern Michigan and attended the Jacksonville Jaguars training camp, went second overall to the Edmonton Football Team.
The Toronto Argonauts selected Tigie Sankoh, a defensive back from Britain, with the third pick.
Edmonton finalizes coaching staff for 2021 Share
EDMONTON The Edmonton Football Team has officially finalized their 2021 coaching staff, the team announced on Wednesday.
Leading the staff is first year CFL head coach Jaime Elizondo. Along with his head coaching duties, Elizondo will also serve as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The full 2021 staff consists of:
