A local man with a prior record is accused in Edgecombe County court records of roughly 10½ months ago being part of a plot to kill a man.
Michael Darcus Jr., 22, is charged in an indictment with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and conspiracy to discharge a firearm into an occupied vehicle causing serious bodily injury.
The indictment, which a grand jury in Edgecombe County handed down on Nov. 16, is in connection with the shooting of Devonte Johnson.
Rocky Mount police in a news release had said Johnson, 27, was provided aid by officers after they had responded at 1:32 p.m. on Feb. 10 to a shooting with an injury near the intersection of Goldleaf Street and Myrtle Avenue in the Holly Street area.

A Wilson man has been arrested on outstanding drug and weapons charges and jailed in the Nash County Detention Center after a multi-agency investigation that has lasted nearly a year.
According to a press release from the Nash County Sheriffâs Office, as the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation, a traffic stop was conducted Jan. 22 on Orlando Dickens for a traffic violation on U.S. 264 eastbound at mile-marker 27.
