The head of Memorial Health System is urging Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder to reconsider funding cuts to the Springfield Fire Department.
Aldermen last month approved slashing $1.4 million from the department’s budget. But Memorial CEO Ed Curtis says if those cuts lead to layoffs, it could delay response time for firefighters dealing with medical emergencies… which in turn could lead to worse outcomes for patients.
Langfelder says he thinks the cuts can be handled through greater efficiency and attrition.
