The Edo State Police Command has deployed 3,410 personnel to mosques and recreation venues across the state to provide security during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.
Announcing the measure in a statement endorsed by the Command’s PPRO, Kontongs Bello, the Edo Police authorities said: “Edo State Police Command wishes to felicitate with all our Muslim ummah in the State during this period of Eid-ul-Fitr celebration which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.”
“In the light of this celebration, the Command has put in place adequate security measures in ensuring the security of lives and property of our Muslims and the general public during and after the celebration.
The Edo State Police Command has killed three suspected kidnappers and rescued seven abducted victims in the state.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the police spokesman in the state, SP Kontongs Bello, the victims were rescued after security operatives combed the Ahor forest along Benin-Auchi Expressway, Benin City.
It was gathered that the rescued victims were travelling from different parts of the country to Benin City, Edo, Delta and Anambra States.
The victims were identified as Daniel Musa, Anslem Obaladike, John Rufus, Best Osarenrere, Okideli Uwachukwu, Unoma John and Festus Francis.
The police spokesman said the victims have been taken to the police cottage hospital for check-up and treatment, adding that police operatives in collaboration with local vigilante have to comb the bush until every kidnapper operating within various forests within the state is forced to relocate.
Amnesty International also condemned the murder while calling on the authorities to do better.
“Rising cases of rape across Nigeria is a result of the failure of law enforcement to ensure that rapists face justice. We are deeply concerned that perpetrators of rape in Nigeria invariably escape punishment. #JusticeForUwa #RapeIsACrime, the Human Rights group said.
The Edo state government, however, promised to investigate the incident and fish out the perpetrators.
In August 2020, the Edo State Police Command paraded six persons arrested in connection to Uwa s rape and brutal murder: Nelson Ogbebor, Akato Valentine, Tina Samuel, Mary Ade, Nosa Osabohien, and Collins Ulegbe.
A combined team of security operatives in Edo State have rescued thirteen persons from kidnappers den in Ahor axis of Aduwawa Bypass, along Benin-Auchi Expressway, in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the State.
The security team includes men and officers of the Edo State Police Command, local hunters and members of the Edo State Vigilante Security Network.

The security operational team who acted on information of the activities of the criminal elements at the Ahor axis of the state led to the rescue of the victims.

Ahor has been notorious for series of incidences of kidnapping that has led to several death of kidnapped victims.
