A VACCINE bus could be seen outside Southend’s supermarkets in a bid to encourage the BAME community to receive their Covid jab. Council bosses have refused to rule out a mobile vaccine bus coming to Southend, with supermarket car parks lined up as “stops” on a route around the town. Uptake rates among the BAME community are lower than the rest of the population in Southend, it has been revealed. This comes as a vaccine bus was rolled out this week in Ipswich, with the mobile jab unit targeting mosques, churches, and synagogues, as well as town centre locations.

NHS England figures show 522 Covid-19 patients had died in the care of The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) since the start of the pandemic The trust, which runs Princess Alexandra Hospital, Essex Hospital, and St Margaret s Hospital, reported the latest death happened on Sunday, February 21. The rate of infection in the areas served by the hospital, Epping Forest and Harlow – at the start of the year among the worst affected areas in England – continue to fall.

The trust, which runs Essex Hospital, St Margaret’s and Princess Alexandra Hospital has reported a total of 499 Covid-19 deaths over the course of the pandemic. Between February 1 -7 (the latest available data), 12 patients who had previously tested positive died. The week before there were 28 deaths and the week before that 40 patients in the trust’s care died.
