SPRINGFIELD – Mercy Health-Urbana Hospital, in close collaboration with Urbana Fire and EMS, launched its Community Paramedicine (CP) program on February 1. The program is funded by a three-year, $225,000 grant the hospitals secured through the Ohio Department of Health’s Community Paramedicine Rural Health Pilot Program last year.
Urbana Hospital Emergency Department nurse Cheryl Wears, RN, BSN, EMT-p, Emergency Department Medical Director Wade Smith, DO, and Urbana Fire and EMS are working together to care for a community of patients who can receive the treatment they need at home instead of at the emergency department.
