There were no winners in either the Pick 5 or Pick 6 wagers on Monday night (May 24) at Yonkers Raceway, resulting in an $11,480.56 carryover in the Pick 5 and a $2,251.43 carryover in the Pick 6 on Tuesday night’s (May 25) ten-race program. The Pick 5 pool will also be guaranteed at $25,000.
The guarantee in the Pick 5 is being offered as part of the United States Trotting Association’s Strategic Wagering Program. The Pick 5, which begins in race five, and the Pick 6, which starts in race three, both have takeout rates of 20 percent.
One of the upsets that led to the carryovers came in the featured $37,000 Open Handicap Pace, as 9-1 shot Raukapuka Ruler N (Jordan Stratton) led all the way and defeated pocket-sitter Galante A (Jim Marohn, Jr.) by half a length in 1:52. Raukapuka Ruler N is an eight-year-old Bettors Delight gelding trained by Peter Tritton for owner Tritton 2 Inc.
Macadoodledoo exploited fast early fractions and roared from worst to first to capture Saturday’s $16,000 Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows in a sparkling 1:49.4.
When Wild Wild Western threw down a swift 1:22.1 three-quarters, it set the stage for Macadoodledoo’s exploits. Under Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.’s urging, the six-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Pirouette Hanover gelding rallied in the four path and defeated Lyons Skipper by 1-1/4 lengths. Whos Better shot the Lightning Lane for show.
Ron Burke trains the winner, who extended his lifetime bankroll to $264,399, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.
Tony Hall collected four wins and Wrenn three on the 13-race card.
After a year away from the races, Burning Blaze the 2018 Harness Horse of the Year in Minnesota will make his first start at Running Aces since his sophomore campaign on Tuesday (May 18).
The now five-year-old son of Wind Me Up was sidelined from the races in 2020, after completing stellar campaigns at ages two and three. The very sharp and easily identifiable gelding started his 2021 comeback campaign with two races at the Cannon Falls fair earlier this month, picking up a win and a solid second-place finish. Justin Anfinson trains the star pacer for owners Alan and Cheryl Sandbulte of Iowa, and Edward Gutin of New York. Burning Blaze has won 13 of 27 career races, with 24 top-three finishes, for earnings of $119,720 and sports a career mark of 1:53.2f taken at Running Aces at age three. Rick Magee will be in the sulky on Tuesday night, and the pair are listed at 6-1 on the morning line in the $5,200 conditioned pace.
Macadoodledoo followed live cover into the final turn, then brushed wide through the lane to capture the $16,000 Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows on Saturday (May 8) his second straight victory.
When Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. moved Macadoodledoo behind the first-over Wild Wild Western, the 6-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Pirouette Hanover took full advantage of the cover trip, roaring past Wild Wild Western late and defeating him by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:51. Whos Better finished third.
Ron Burke trains the winner, who extended his career bankroll to $255,574, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.
Dave Palone collected three wins on the 13-race card.
