COVID-19 Parent Benefit to be Extended
The Ministry for the Family has announced that the COVID-19 Parent Benefit is to be extended to reflect the current restrictions which are in place to curb the spread of COVID-19 and which have seen schools shifting to online lessons until the 11th April.
Parents employed in the private sector with children under 16 years of age, who are not able to work from home, and who due to the impact of COVID-19 and the closure of schools, between the 15
th March and 11
th April 2021 cannot go to work and are on unpaid leave, to take care of their children, may apply for this benefit. (Does not include employees, working with private companies, and who work or provide a service in a Government department or entity).
BREAKING: New COVID-19 Measures Announced, Effective from Tomorrow to the 11th April
The Prime Minister, together with the Deputy Prime Minister and the Superintendent of Public Health addressed a press conference, during which new COVID-19 measures were announced.
In brief, the measures, which come into force as from tomorrow to the 11th April, are the following:
Restaurants/Kiosks and Snack Bars will offer only takeaway services
Resturants in Hotels and Guest Houses will only be available for residents
Nightclubs, Bars and Bandclubs will remain closed
A €6,000 fine applies in case any of the above regulations are not adhered to
Mass-events will still be prohibited, apart from weddings and religious functions
In a 5 January 2021 press conference, the government announced details of a revision of the Wage Supplement Scheme, under which COVID-19 business aid will no longer be calculated on the basis of an entity s Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community (NACE) classification code, but rather on loss of turnover. This is a key change in approach and will likely affect many businesses.
A new method for calculating wage support for businesses hit by the pandemic was announced in the 2021 Budget, relative to which further details were given during the 5 January 2021 press conference. The support level will be calculated according to the difference in turnover declared by businesses over the six months between March 2019 and October 2019 against turnover declared over the six months between March 2020 and October 2020, and will be determined as follows:
