UN Fears Myanmar Could Be Heading Towards Full-blown Conflict

The UN rights chief warned Tuesday Myanmar could be spiralling towards a full-blown Syrian-style conflict, after a two-month crackdown that a local monitoring group says has already claimed more than 700 lives.
Myanmar is in chaos and its economy has been paralysed since the military seized power from civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi on February 1.
Warning of possible crimes against humanity, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on Tuesday urged countries to take immediate action to push Myanmar s military to stop its campaign of repression and slaughter of its people.

MIRANSHAH: An under-construction petrol pump was blown with explosives in Mir Ali subdivision of North Waziristan district on Sunday. District Police Officer Shafiullah Khan said that there were no fatalities but the blast caused damage to the building. He said the police were investigating the blast. Meanwhile, local tribal elders have demanded the government to resolve disputes among tribes in the region. They said the authorities must also ensure a ban on the display of weapons in the area.

Two Whanganui riders have blown away the competition at the recent New Zealand Junior Motocross Championships in Tauranga.
Troy Bullock and Karaitiana Horne both took out 1NZ in their respective classes. Troy won the 14-16yrs 85cc class and Karaitiana won the 12-16yrs womens class at the Junior Nationals on February 5, 6 and 7.
