Villagers of Potu Senari from Kotia panchayat in Koraput gather to cast votes in the recent panchayat election in Andhra Pradesh KORAPUT: The Odisha government on Monday decided to file an injunction before the Supreme Court against fresh attempts by Andhra Pradesh to conduct panchayat election in some parts of the Kotia group of villages. “The government after careful consideration has decided to file a suit under Article-131 of the Constitution before the Supreme Court of India against the state of Andhra Pradesh and its officers for appropriate relief in relation to the Kotia dispute,” a letter by the state’s law department states.

Image for representation Witnessing a fresh spike in the daily Covid-19 cases in some areas of the state, Odisha government has issued guidelines for the month of April keeping in view the ensuing by-elections at Pipili and a series of religious festivals next month. The guidelines issued on Wednesday will be effective between April 1 and April 30, allowing the district authorities and municipal corporations to enforce micro containment zones according to the protocols of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The new guideline also focuses on testing, tracking, and treatment. As per the guidelines, the proportion of RT-PCR tests in the total mix will also be scaled up to the extent possible.

Since the special relief commissioner (SRC) has restricted large gatherings and cultural programmes, the celebrations will be a low-key affair. The SRC has put a cap on crowd (maximum 200 attendees) in Utkal Divas events with strict adherence to Covid guidelines like social distancing, mandatory wearing of masks, sanitisation and thermal checking. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will virtually address the state-level Utkal Divas programme scheduled to be held at Jaydev Bhawan here where as speaker Surya Narayan Patro will be chief guest.

Share Via Email   |  A+A A- By Express News Service BHUBANESWAR: After allowing partial reopening of schools for students of Class X and XII in 2020-21 academic session from January 8, Odisha Government on Sunday announced the commencement of classes for final year students of UG and PG in Colleges and Universities in physical mode from January 11. The notification issued by the Higher Education department stated all State Universities and Government and non-Government Colleges can resume classes with due compliance to Covid safety guidelines. The private universities can also commence classes for the UG and PG students from the same date as per the SOP prescribed by the department.
