Bidens DHS Releases 1K Remain in Mexico Migrants into U.S. in Two Weeks
President Joe Bidens administration has released more than 1,000 migrants enrolled in the now-defunct Remain in Mexico program into the United States interior over the last two weeks.
After taking office in January, Biden ended the Remain in Mexico policy which had proven remarkably effective in eliminating the Catch and Release program where border crossers are apprehended and subsequently released into the U.S. interior while awaiting their asylum hearings.
To date, of the more than 71,000 asylum cases under Remain in Mexico, less than one percent of foreign nationals were found to have a legitimate asylum claim.
When USCIS receipting delays were diminishing OPT opportunities, foreign students, universities, and advocacy groups reached out to USCIS for a solution. USCIS has announced some flexibility regarding OPT applications received on or after October 1, 2020, through May 1, 2021, inclusive.
Trump s One Immigration Reform That Biden Should Keep
Just days before the 2020 election, the Trump administration proposed a new rule to change how H-1B visas are allocated. The final rule was announced last week and is set to go into effect before the 2022 H-1B lottery. The Biden administration will have many Trump-era immigration rules to reverse. But this rule - uniquely - is worth supporting after the end of the Trump administration, since it ensures visas go to the best and brightest, reduces risk for H-1B employers, protects native workers, and fulfills one of Biden’s campaign promises.

Progressives working for President Joe Biden will kill off the December 2020 upgrade to the 2008 citizenship test in mid-April.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Servies agency has “determined the 2020 civics test development process, content … may inadvertently create potential barriers to the naturalization process,” according to a February 22 agency statement. “This action is consistent with [agency policy] … to eliminate barriers and make the process more accessible to all eligible individuals.”
The announcement covers roughly one million people per year, and it shows that Biden’s officials think “there is nothing exceptional about becoming a U.S. citizen,” said Rob Law, the director of regulatory affairs and policy for the Center for Immigration Studies.
