BBL10: Callum Ferguson, Oliver Davies drive Sydney Thunder to victory over Perth Scorchers at Manuka Oval

By Zachary GatesDec 22nd, 2020 FShareTTweetQSMSWWhatsAppBEmailGJTumblrLLinkedInDec 22nd, 2020 It was a matter of a gun veteran showing the way for an exciting youngster at Manuka Oval in the BBL tonight, with Sydney Thunder debutant Oliver Davies playing second fiddle to Callum Ferguson as the men in lime powered to a final-over victory. Ferguson joined Usman Khawaja at the crease at 1-6 in the Thunder s pursuit of the Perth Scorchers 152, and the 36-year-old made the chase look easy from the moment he arrived in the middle. The seven-wicket triumph means the Thunder have won back-to-back games to climb to fourth on the table, while the Scorchers remain winless after three outings.

BBL video | Usman Khawaja vs AJ Tye umpiring howler, caught behind, DRS calls grow louder

FShareTTweetQSMSWWhatsAppBEmailGJTumblrLLinkedInDec 22nd, 2020 Calls for the Big Bash League to introduce DRS have grown louder after an umpiring howler in Tuesday s Thunder vs Scorchers match. Thunder batsman Usman Khawaja clearly nicked a delivery from Scorchers paceman AJ Tye in the sixth over of the run chase, only for umpire Simon Lightbody to decide that Khawaja s bat had hit the ground. His bat was significantly above the ground and there was a clear edge - but Khawaja was given not out and with no DRS, the poor decision could not be overturned. I thought the bat hit the ground, mate, Lightbody told a stunned Tye.

The DRS, a staple of the international game, would have meant the correct decision was made when Usman Khawaja smacked one off the edge through to Josh Inglis behind the stumps.
