And, with the ensuing controversy, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may turn out as the only major political party contesting the chairmanship and councillorship positions in the 33 councils of the state. Some political parties are already calling for the postponement of the election based on the protracted legal tussle just decided by the Supreme Court on the propriety or otherwise of Governor Seyi Makinde’s decision to sack the elected council executives shortly after his inauguration in May 29, 2019. But, OYSIEC and the ruling PDP disagreed, insisting that the council poll must hold on May 22, 2021 as earlier announced.

Views: Visits 7 By Joseph Erunke – Abuja The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has said it distributed relief materials to 1,112 households devastated by a windstorm that swept through four communities in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State. NEMA named Ogomogom, Akorofono, Nkarasi, and Abinti communities in Ikom Local Government Area as beneficiaries of the gesture. The communities, according to a statement Sunday,by the agency’s Head, Media and Public Relations, Manzo Ezekiel, received the items at the weekend. They have been bearing the brunt of the windstorm which pulled off roofs, destroyed houses with loss of properties. “NEMA Director-General, AVM Muhammadu Muhammed (rtd), who flagged off the relief distribution at Ikom Local Government Area Secretariat, sympathized with the affected persons, noting the relief items were approved by President Muhammadu Buhari for delivery to them by the Agency,” the statement said.

Group petitions EFCC, alleges Taraba Gov used sister, contracts to launder N39bn

Daily Post Nigeria Published Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku and his administration have been accused of looting the treasury to the tune of N39billion naira. The Taraba Integrity and Accountability Group Jalingo (TIAGJ), petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, PRNigeria reports. The organization claimed the accounts of the Taraba Government House, in Jalingo, and the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, are channels through which billions of naira were siphoned from 2015 to 2020. TIAGJ alleged Ishaku’s younger sister, Mrs. Gladys Kande Mamman, a member of the Taraba State Primary Board, uses pseudo companies linked to her BVN (withheld) to launder billions for the governor via hoax contracts.
