Ensuring Safe Journey on River, Dispur to streamline operation of country boats
The Inland Water Transport and AIWTDS will give 70% subsidy to the operators of country boats against the cost of retrofitting and replacement of the existing water pumps or automobile engines by marine engines.

GUWAHATI: Aiming to ensure safe journey on the Brahmaputra and other rivers in the State, Dispur is ready to implement the Jibondinga scheme. The scheme is being funded by the World Bank.
The scheme will be implemented by the Directorate of Inland Water Transport in coordination with the Assam Inland
Water Transport Development Society (AIWTDS). The prime objective of the scheme is to work out a hi-tech mechanism to monitor and regulate sailing of country boats.

MAJULI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually launched the Mahabahu Brahmaputra project and laid the foundation stones of two bridges in Assam.
Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways; Union Minister for Law & Justice, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology; MoS (I/C) for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Chief Minister of Assam and Meghalaya were present on the occasion here.
To mark the launch of Mahabahu Brahmaputra project, he inaugurated the Ro-Pax vessel operations between Neamati and Majuli Island, North Guwahati and South Guwahati and between Dhubri and Hatsingimari. He laid the foundation stone of Inland Water Transport (IWT) Terminal at Jogighopa and various tourist jetties on River Brahmaputra and launched digital solutions for Ease of Doing Busin

GUWAHATI: PM Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually kicked off multiple road, water and digital connectivity projects worth Rs 9,500 crore in poll-bound Assam, which includes work on inland waterways, for an alternative connect with the northeast to reduce the region’s dependence on the strategically vital chicken’s neck or the Siliguri corridor.
Modi also laid the foundation of the country’s longest bridge (19km) over the Brahmaputra to be built at a cost of Rs 4,997 crore between Phulbari in Meghalaya to Dhubri in Assam and “bhoomi pujan” for the construction of a bridge connecting Majuli with mainland Assam at a cost of Rs 925 crore.

NEW DELHI: Launching projects key to improving connectivity in northeast India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the double-engine government at the Centre and in Assam has reduced the geographical and cultural gap in the entire region.
PM Modi, through video conferencing, laid the foundation stone of India s longest bridge which will connect Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari in Meghalaya. The 19km bridge will be India s longest and will play a crucial role in connecting the two northeastern states.
Launching the bridge, PM Modi said this will be a life-changing setu for the people in the region.
PM Modi also launched the Mahabahu-Brahmaputra programme and participated in the bhumi pujan for the two-lane Majuli bridge which will connect Majuli to Jorhat in Assam, through video conferencing.
