PM Narendra Modi launches multiple development initiatives in Assam through video conferencing, in New Delhi on Thursday
GUWAHATI: PM Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually kicked off multiple road, water and digital connectivity projects worth Rs 9,500 crore in poll-bound Assam, which includes work on inland waterways, for an alternative connect with the northeast to reduce the region’s dependence on the strategically vital chicken’s neck or the Siliguri corridor.
Modi also laid the foundation of the country’s longest bridge (19km) over the Brahmaputra to be built at a cost of Rs 4,997 crore between Phulbari in Meghalaya to Dhubri in Assam and “bhoomi pujan” for the construction of a bridge connecting Majuli with mainland Assam at a cost of Rs 925 crore.
