Demand returning to normal after turbulence of 2020
Throughout 2020, demand patterns for the banana industry were affected by the covid crisis. Now, it seems to be slowly returning to a somewhat more normal pattern of demand. âDemand has been stable, as we begin to see retailer and wholesalers slowly begin to recover from the pandemic,â says Adams. While conventional bananas have seen some ups and downs throughout the pandemic, the demand for organic produce seems to have actually risen during the pandemic.
âIndia and Far East have been strong importers of apples this yearâ
India and the Far Eastern countries have been strong importers of their apples and contracts are already being put in place for the next season. With the current season coming to an end, one exporter is satisfied by the markets this year.
The Turkish apple season is coming to its conclusion. Muhsin Riza, export director for Turkish fruit and vegetable exporter Ideal Tarim, states that he is satisfied with how the season went: âWeâre currently still dealing with the apple season. To gather produce, we select the best orchards from all over Turkey as well as manage our very own apple, pear and grape orchards, all of which are Global Gap certified. At this moment in the season, weâre almost ending our stocks and have been very happy with the market this year. Direct imports of Moroccan produce are well received by the German trade
