Universal Health Coverage:  FG pledges to reposition healthcare sector

By Chioma Obinna As the world mark this year’s Universal Health Coverage Day, the Federal Government has pledged to reposition the country’s healthcare sector with a view to ensure Nigerians have access to quality healthcare need without falling into poverty. In his message to mark the day with the theme: “‘Health for all: Protect Everyone”, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire acknowledged that the country has a poor health indices. Ehanire said: “UHC Day reminds us of our most urgent priority: providing quality healthcare services for the wellbeing of our citizens.” The Minister said the attainment of UHC is a high priority for the government and reforms are already happening to make quality services available, to more people, with stronger financial risk protection.

The press release stated, “The fieldwork in the remaining 14 (Phase-II) States/UTs is currently under progress. The main objective of successive rounds of the NFHS is to provide reliable and comparable datasets on health, family welfare and other emerging issues. And this data so generated when completed would be comparable with NFHS-4 without any loss of information.
