LEXINGTON, Kentucky – There’s a new plaque on the wall of the NTA Visit USA Center in Shanghai, China. The United States won first place the Gold Award in the “My Dream Destination” competition at the World Travel Fair in Shanghai.
The travel fair hosted more than 500 exhibitors from 45 countries/regions. Some 3,000 attendees cast votes at the fair for the country that presented the most desirable destination. Switzerland won the silver award in the competition, and Japan took the bronze.
“Through our work at the NTA Visit USA Center, we hear every day about the desire Chinese travelers have for visiting the US,” said Lisa Simon, NTA president. “We know that group leisure travel is how many Chinese are able to experience the diversity of US destinations, and NTA has seen a marked increase in travelers coming to the United States. TOKYO (eTN) – Japan’s largest travel show, JATA TABIHAKU, is being here held here in the Japanese capital city beginning today, Thursday, September 12, 2013, and will run until Sunday, September 15, 2013.
Organized by the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA), the event has had many transformations since being introduced in 1977 as the JATA International Congress & Travel Trade Show and it ran every other year until 2003 when in 2001, in a move to help Japan become a “Tourism Nation” as was pointed out by former Prime Minister Junichi Koizumi, JATA joined forces with Travel Journal, Inc.’s World Travel Fair to operate annually as JATA International Tourism Congress & World Travel Fair, with WTF handling the consumer travel show.
