The Odisha capital, whose foundation was laid by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on this day in 1948, turned 73 on Tuesday. The city, which has seen tremendous development over the past few decades, was ranked second in the Centre’s Ease of Living Index 2020 with a population of less than a million.
A number of functions were held here on Tuesday to mark its 73rd anniversary amidst Covid restrictions.
Recalling Bhubaneswar’s journey, Pradosh Patnaik, senior journalist and brother of economist Prabhat Patnaik, said: “The foundation of the city was laid on April 13, 1948, by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Bhubaneswar was designed by German town planning engineer Otto H. Koenigsberger in 1946. In the course of its journey through 73 years, the city has witnessed unprecedented development.”

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], March 6 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday inaugurated World Skill Center, which is a premier advanced skill training institute in Bhubaneswar.
World Skill Center (WSC) is being modelled around leading TVET Institute; Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore and seeks inspiration from World Skills, Russia, and Global Institute for Transferring Skills, South Korea. WSC is being established under Odisha Skill Development Project assisted by the Asian Development Bank with ITE Education Services (ITEES), Singapore as the knowledge partner, read the press release by the state government.

The Odisha government has set up a World Skill Centre (WSC), a premier advance skill training institute to hone the skills of the youth, make them employable in different industries and create globally employable youth in the state.
Inaugurating the WSC on Friday on the occasion of the 105th birth anniversary of legendary chief minister Biju Patnaik, chief minister Naveen Patnaik said, “Odisha has made rapid strides in skill development in the last five years. We have created new avenues for our youth to compete with their counterparts anywhere. Our aim is to meet their aspirations, to make them globally employable.”
