Jay “J.B.” Pritzker announced a $15 million investment to build two advanced manufacturing training academies. The academies, located in downstate Illinois, will offer hundreds of residents the opportunity to develop skills for careers in advanced manufacturing. Pritzker, who was joined by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity in making the announcement, said the academies will begin enrolling students later this year. BELLEVILLE Southwestern Illinois College will receive a $7.5 million state grant to create a new high-skills training academy. On Wednesday Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced a $15 million capital investment through the Rebuild Illinois capital plan to establish manufacturing training academies at SWIC and Heartland Community College in Peoria. Pritzker said the academies will provide hundreds of Illinois residents the opportunity to develop specialized skills for advanced manufacturing careers. The programs will begin enrolling students in the fall of 2022.

February 2, 2021 / 11:40am / Jessica Hammei Parkland College has submitted a $7.5 million bid to be an advanced manufacturing training academy through a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). Focused on meeting the emerging training and workforce demands of Illinois manufacturers, the academy will leverage the assets of the Champaign-Urbana community to grow the manufacturing talent pipeline, provide hands-on training in advanced skills, and assist manufacturers from across the region in scaling emerging technologies. Training opportunities will include advanced skills in machining, robotics and programmable logic controllers (PLC), and advanced manufacturing in addition to the core elements of manufacturing already available, such as welding.
