About 38 tonnes of biomedical waste a day are being generated by over 60 notified hospitals in the state
The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board has developed a mobile app for effective management and scientific disposal of biomedical waste from Covid-19 hospitals and quarantine centres.
Over 600 notified Covid-19 hospitals in the state are now generating about 38 tonnes of biomedical waste per day and scientific disposal of this has posed the biggest challenge for APPCB, according to its Chairman AK Parida.
Kadapa district is generating the lowest of 0.24 tonnes per day.

B JOTHI RAMALINGAM Nearly 146 tonnes of bio-medical waste is generated per day in the country due to diagnostic activities and treatment of COVID-19 patients, the Ministry of Environment informed Parliament on Monday.
Responding to a query in the Upper House of Parliament, Minister of State for Environment Babul Supriyo said that as per the figures from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), approximately 146 Tons per day of incremental BMW is generated in the country due to diagnostic activities, treatment and quarantine of COVID-19 patients.
