A proposed wind farm in Adams and Stanton Townships is being evaluated by the Federal Aviation Administration for its potential effects on air travel in the region. Public comment is welcome until May 20th at the agency’s website. For every potential project, an assessment must be completed by the FAA’s Obstruction Evaluation Group (OEG). The process is comprehensive, so any applicants are encouraged to submit their proposal three to four months before they intend construction to begin.

cbleck@miningjournal.net MARQUETTE The Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees will guide the NMU administration to develop a plan by June 1 to incentivize achieving herd immunity for COVID-19 in the campus community for the coming fall semester. Steve Young, vice chairman of the board, addressed the issue at the board’s regular meeting on Friday, noting that NMU has had low positivity rates. “We really need to now look at that next level, now that vaccines are out there,” Young said. “They’re in ready supply. Access doesn’t appear to be an issue as it was a few weeks ago.”

Lacrosse Drops First Game of Weekend Series to Lakers

ABC 10/CW5 Courtesy: Northern Michigan University Athletics Courtesy: NMU Wildcats MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s lacrosse team fell to Grand Valley State University 19-9 Friday evening in the first of a two-game Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) series. The Lakers scored the first three goals of the game to pull ahead in the early going. Clara Johnson put a stop to the run with her first goal as a Wildcat with an assist from Madeline Bittell at 24:31. NMU pulled within one when Emily Renfrew was able to find the back of the net 23 seconds later. GVSU put two more goals on the board after the Wildcat run. Jessica Daniels got her first goal of the game, assisted by Bittell, to bring NMU back within two.
