OK, Raise Your Hand if You Did Not Embrace Telemedicine This Year

05/03/21 Mitchell International, Inc., as reported in PropertyCasualty360.com, recently released the results of a survey regarding the adoption of technology in the workers compensation sector. As is often the case with such surveys, there were results we found surprising, while others aligned with our own observations. The most surprising result was the finding that: “Telemedicine was the most integrated digital tool during the pandemic, with more than half of respondents saying their organization onboarded the technology in the past year.” On initial review, that would seem significant. Until we think about the reality of the past year. States were locked down. Offices were closed. Doctors who were not in emergency or acute care facilities were often not seeing patients; especially patients that actually appeared to be sick. And in the midst of that, we get a survey that says “more than half” of the industry adopted telemedicine as a result. That means almost half did

About $11.2 billion will soon make its way to Texas schools to help students recover from the pandemic after state leaders announced the partial release of federal education dollars on Wednesday. The state will distribute the funds for use over the next three years through grants administered by the Texas Education Agency. The money is part of a larger package of federal funds totaling close to $18 billion that Congress approved late last year and this spring. Texas was one of the few states that had yet to make plans to distribute most of the federal aid set aside for educators and students.

Across five decades, through his writing about music, Marsh has offered insights into issues of community, class, race, politics, health, the environment, the music industry and more. “Dave Marsh has been a force in music culture since the late 1960s,” Jon Landau, manager of Bruce Springsteen and Marsh’s longtime friend, tells Billboard. “Whether it’s through his many books, his countless reviews, his journalism, or his radio shows, one thing has remained constant he always brings his love of the music to everything he touches.” Landau will open the celebration Friday in conversation with author Caryn Rose, whose works include

Greg Abbott, right, gives his State of the State address as Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, left, listens in the House Chamber in Austin, Texas. A year after a high school mass shooting near Houston that remains one of the deadliest in U.S. history, Texas lawmakers are close to going home without passing any new gun restrictions, or even tougher firearm storage laws that Gov. Abbott had backed after the tragedy. A GOP governor pushing even a small restriction on firearm owners in gun-friendly Texas was a landmark shift after decades of loosening regulations. But it was met with a severe rebuke from gun-rights advocates. (AP Photo/Eric Gay, File)Eric Gay, STF / Associated Press
