Legislation that would ease restrictions on South Carolina’s micro-distilleries has passed the House of Representatives in a 98-11 vote and is on its way to Gov. Henry McMaster’s desk. The bill’s backers are hopeful the governor will sign the legislation into law this week. The Bill called the Micro-Distillery Parity Act would effectively bring the state’s 30 permitted distilleries into a similar governance as breweries and wineries, said Scott Blackwell, co-owner of Charleston-based High Wire Distilling Co., and president of the South Carolina Craft Distillers Guild, who has been leading the charge for the changes.
