A developer is walking away from plans to construct a veterans housing building at the Amato’s Liquors property, according to Board of Selectmen Chairman Anthony Cogliano.
Cogliano said he spoke to a representative of Rising Community & Housing, Inc. who informed him the nonprofit is exploring other opportunities for the 206 Lincoln Ave. parcel.
“I would say the veterans housing portion is dead,” Cogliano said.
Last November, the Conservation Commission issued an order of conditions to Rising Community & Housing to allow a 24-unit veterans housing development on a 23,321-square-foot site where Amato’s Liquors previously operated.
Cogliano said Rising Community & Housing encountered opposition from some in town who questioned whether the project qualified for protection under the Dover Amendment.
