Streets around U District Station in Seattle are re-opening. Sound Transit The streets around the U District Station for Link light rail are reopening to the public starting today, a milestone in the progress of construction for the Northgate Link extension. Brooklyn Avenue will open to traffic and pedestrians today, while NE 43rd Street is opening today to pedestrian traffic. “The street openings are yet another sign of how close we are getting to the opening of the Northgate Link extension,” said Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff. “Sound Transit thanks the businesses and residents of the area for their patience in spite of all the inconveniences during construction. We are confident that they will soon see that it was all worth it.”

  The retirement of Alaska Airlines CEO Brad Tilden after a 30-year career with the company  at least in one way had the University of Washington written all over it. The team at Alaska’s sister airline, Horizon Air, recently unveiled a special Huskies-themed livery on a Q400 (tail number #N435QX) in honor of Tilden, who earned his MBA at the UW and has maintained a strong partnership with the University for several years. Tilden officially retired March 31. University of Washington Keeps 2021 Commencements Virtual

Reply (Shutterstock/Denise Lett) SEATTLE The University of Washington s Class of 2021 will have to celebrate their graduations virtually this June, marking the second year of pandemic-related disruptions to commencement ceremonies. In an April 1 letter addressed to graduating students at the university s Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma campuses, UW President Ana Mari Cauce confirmed all sanctioned in-person college, school and department-level graduations would remain virtual, including the traditionally large ceremonies at Husky Stadium. While Washington s Phase 3 guidelines allow for events at outdoor venues, capped at 25 percent capacity, university officials determined rising case counts and limited vaccination among university employees and students pose too much of a risk.
