KARACHI: Holders Central Punjab put themselves on the brink of qualification for the final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (first-class) when they reduced Southern Punjab to 314-7 in their second innings, having first forced them to follow on the third day of their four-day last round fixture here at SBP Ground on Monday.
Southern Punjab are eight runs ahead with only three wickets in hand. Opener Zain Abbas spearheaded Southern Punjab’s innings with a superb 118 off 172 balls. He hit 18 fours and one six in his maiden century of the season.
Agha Salman once again batted well, scoring 79 off 119 balls, smacking 12 fours. Umar Siddiq (32) and Imran Rafiq (30) were the other notable contributors.

KARACHI: Usman Salahuddin hammered an unbeaten double hundred and later bowlers did a remarkable job as holders Central Punjab tightened their noose around Southern Punjab on the second day of their last round fixture of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (first-class) here at SBP Ground on Sunday.
Usman, who was batting on 139 on Saturday, made 219 not out to enable Central Punjab to declare their first innings at 493-7 after resuming at 309-4.
Skipper Hasan Ali and Bilawal Iqbal then got three wickets each to reduce Southern Punjab to 153-9.

KARACHI: With Khyber Pakhtunkhwa having qualified for the final with 148 points, the rest of the title aspirants will be putting in their best to grab the remaining one spot as the tenth and final round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (first-class) begins at different venues here on Saturday (today).
Second-placed Southern Punjab (128 points), third-placed Northern (114) and fourth-placed Central Punjab (111) can grab the remaining one final spot of the countryâs marquee domestic event.
Here at National Stadium, Northern will lock horns with KP. Since leading the six-team points table at the end of the sixth round, Northern have faced two defeats and drawn one match.
