Bill Aiming to End Statewide Mask Mandate Introduced In Senate

The Utah statewide mask mandate may soon be coming to an end.  H.B. 294, Pandemic Emergency Powers Amendments, sponsored by Rep. Paul Ray, is aiming to terminate the statewide mask mandate. The bill has passed the House by a large margin, and if approved by two-thirds of the Senate and signed by Gov. Cox, it would go into effect immediately.    Ray’s plan would not apply to schools, groups of 50 or more people or places where social distancing is not possible.    The bill has a Senate Sponsor, Sen. Derrin Owens, but it’s unclear if it will get a vote on the floor because there’s only one day left of the Utah Legislative Session.

Gov Encourages People To Donate On Tax Forms To Aid Unhoused Utahns

Gov. Spencer Cox is encouraging Utahns to give to the Pamela Atkinson Homeless Trust Fund on their 2020 Utah state tax forms.  Cox’s encouragement came following a visit on Tuesday with advocate Pamela Atkinson to the Road Home Midvale Family Resource Center where the two delivered donations of children’s clothing. Cox said while the numbers of homeless families are dropping in the state, giving a few dollars on a tax form can go a long way to helping the 250-300 families who are unhoused each night in the state. Donations to the fund are used for many things including emergency services, like temporary housing, services that help people transition into housing and rental assistance.
