LOCAL recipients of this year's Saltire Awards will be revealed in a short film set to be streamed online at 7pm on Wednesday (2 June). The film, which was made because the usual awards ceremony is off limits due to Covid restrictions, will be broadcast on the Voluntary Action.

The accolade is part of the Saltire Awards, and is only presented to those who have carried out over 800 volunteering hours.
Wendi Cuffe, v olunteer c hampion at Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway (TSDG) , helped present the award.
She said: “Many organisations in Dumfries and Galloway could not function without the teams of dedicated volunteers. Personally, through volunteering, I have been challenged to try something different, achieved personal goals, discovered new skills, but more importantly met new friends and felt happy.”

Hundreds of families are enjoying living in comfortable housing in Shetland – much to the thanks of 85-year-old Willy Henderson.
The former deputy director of housing for Shetland Islands Council has in the New Year’s Honours received a BEM for his voluntary services to numerous charities.
Mr Henderson said: “I am very surprised and very honoured. I have been working with local charities for almost five decades.
“Charities play a vital role in everyday life, no more than in today’s climate.”
