James Monroe Courtney having lived a loving, generous, and full life passed away peacefully at his home in North Myrtle Beach, SC on January 7, 2021.
Jim was born 10/27/1951 in Salem, Ohio to the late Orlan J. and Annetta J. (McClintock) Courtney. In addition to his parents Jim was pre-deceased by his brother Jared, uncle Forrest and Thelma McClintock, Don and Muriel McClintock.
After the passing of his dad when Jim was only 4, Annetta, Jim and his brother Jared went to live with his beloved grandparents, Erle (‘Gint’) and Nellie McClintock in Lisbon, Ohio. ‘Gint’ would impart strong character values and words of wisdom to his grandsons. Jim’s favorite quote was, “Sometimes the hardest thing to do is the right thing to do.” Jim carried his grandfather’s advice and applied it throughout his life.
Is Nick Saban the Greatest College Head Football Coach Ever?
Bama absolutely stomped a mud hole in the Buckeyes.
Last night in Miami in the College Football Playoff National Championship, Nick Saban’s team won 52-24. In blowout fashion. Nick Saban is now the all-time winningest head coaches when it comes to College Championships. He has now won seven of them.
Of course, anyone who knows college football history has heard of Paul “Bear” Bryant. The “Bear” was the legendary head coach for many years at Bama. Bryant won six national championships at Alabama.
Nick Saban has coached at many places in his storied career. With Michigan State being one of them. This year he had five All-Americans and one Heisman Trophy winner that made up this solid team. Some people don’t like Saban, but when people are successful, that’s sometimes the price.
Alabama or Ohio State: Who Will Be the National Champion?
Tonight is going to be a special ballgame. The National Champion of all college football will be crowned tonight in South Florida. It’s Alabama versus Thee Ohio State.
Bama is an eight and a half point favorite at a neutral site. It’s the CFP National Championship Game Presented by AT&T. Toe to leather is at 8 PM, and the game is being played in Miami.
It’s been a strange year for college football with Covid-19 cases running rampant. It affected almost every team, especially Ohio State. Their young coach is Ryan Day and he is pitted against the old master Nick Saban.
By now everyone should know that former Lions linebacker Chris Spielman is a special advisor to the Detroit Lions organization. Hopefully he and his special advisory task force search committee can hire the right people for the job vacancies with Detroit.
Now, I have always loved the linebacker position on defense. Which got me thinking, who is your all-time favorite outstanding Lions linebacker? There are many to choose from.
I have to start out with Hall of Fame linebacker Joe Schmidt. Schmidt played for the Lions for 13 years from 1953 to 1965. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of fame in 1973. He played in 155 games, 24 interceptions, 8xAll-Pro, 10x Pro Bowl. He also was the head coach of the Lions when Paper Lion was filmed with George Plimpton.
The Detroit Lions made a brilliant move yesterday. They hired former Lions linebacker Chris Spielman as a special assistant to the chairman and president and CEO.
Speilman quit his NFL broadcasting job to take this job. He spearheads the search group along with Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders. They need to hit a home run with these two hires. This franchise needs solid leadership from the top to the bottom.
So Speilman must hire a solid GM and head coach. This team has been putrid for years and years.
Chris Speilman is football. His dad was his coach. He was born and raised in Canton, Ohio where the Pro Football Hall of Fame is. He played at Thee Ohio State and with the Lions and Buffalo Bills. So he knows the Lions losing culture. He seems like a no-nonsense kind of guy too.
