The
murder of a man whose daughter was allegedly sexually harassed by the accused in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh has again brought the focus back on crimes against women in the state. Hathras had earlier shot to national infamy
after a 20-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped by four upper caste men and the police s handling of the case, resulting in public outcry on the streets last year.
Even though Uttar Pradesh has always had a high rate of crime against women, if National Crime Record Bureau data is to be believed, it is the viciousness of the recent attacks that has left everyone stunned. In the Hathras case, the victim was left with her tongue bitten off and her spinal cord and neck severely injured.

In a shocking case, a body of a 40-year-old farmer was found with gunshot injury in a field in Uttar Pradesh s Badaun district on Friday.
Identified as Avnaish Kumar, the farmer had gone to his field in Behti village on Thursday night and he was found lying dead in the morning, police said.
The police said that the man woke early Thursday, picked up a sickle and repeatedly attacked his wife as she was sleeping in their Gangoli village home.Hear
Man with mental illness hacks wife to death in UP

Badaun (Uttar Pradesh), Feb 19 : A man suffering mental illness has allegedly hacked his wife to death in her sleep in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district.
The police said that the man woke early Thursday, picked up a sickle and repeatedly attacked his wife as she was sleeping in their Gangoli village home.
Hearing the woman’s screams, other family members rushed to their room and rescued her, but she died before she could receive medical aid.
According to police, the accused, Sukhdev, who has been undergoing treatment for mental illness for a few years, is known to turn violent at times.
