Cyclone Tauktae hits Karnataka coast with wind speed up to 75 km per hour; brings in heavy rainfall

Cyclone Tauktae has hit the coastal region of Karnataka resulting in heavy rainfall especially in Dakshina Kannada district, where wind speed of around 75 km per hour was recorded, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said here on Saturday.
The IMD also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in few places adjoining Western Ghat region - Belagavi, Chikkamgaluru, Dakshin Kannada, Hassan, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Udupi and Uttar Kannada districts on Sunday.

Torrential rains batter Kerala, red alert sounded

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) sounded red alert , indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall above 204 mm in 24 hours, in 9 districts.

The state plans to set up oxygen plants to prevent a similar crisis in the future
HUBBALLI: The state government has taken the initiative to set up exclusive oxygen plants in 10 districts and 30 taluk hospitals in the state to ensure there is no shortage of oxygen in view of the rising number of Covid-19 cases.
On Thursday, the state government issued a work order to a Delhi-based company to set up oxygen plants and work is expected to start in a couple of days. The government intends to finish the process of the setup of plants within a month.
The basic aim behind establishing the plants at government hospitals in the district headquarters is to strengthen the public health system and ensure that each of these hospitals has a captive oxygen generation facility.

New Delhi [India], March 17 (ANI): Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik on Wednesday arrived at Parliament to attend the ongoing session after over two months as he was recovering following a road accident in January. Naik has left for Delhi on March 14 to attend the ongoing Parliament session, read a statement issued on Sunday by Naik s office.
Naik had met with an accident at a village in Ankola Taluk of Uttar Kannada district in Karnataka on January 11 and was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He was discharged from the hospital on February 24.
