More than 10,000 birds were counted in the pelicanry, says official
Atapaka Bird Sanctuary, located in Kolleru lake on Krishna-West Godavari borders, was opened for tourists after a gap of eight months. The Forest Department declared the pelicanry open for the public on Friday (January 1).
Thousands of tourists from Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Puducherry and other States visit the sanctuary, also known as bird’s paradise, every year.

Expect Delhi forest dept to be revamped ‘for meaningful enforcement of rule of law’: NGT

“The application will stand disposed of with the hope and expectation that the authorities concerned will revamp the forest department appropriately for meaningful enforcement of rule of law,” the order stated.
Hearing an application about staff vacancies and for enhancing infrastructure of the forest department, a National Green Tribunal (NGT) bench earlier this week said it expected the Delhi forest department to be revamped “for meaningful enforcement of the rule of law”.

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have unearthed assets worth Rs. 4,41,52,952 owned by P. Shivashankaraswamy, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF). The ACF’s palatial house in city was raided recently. The officer’s assets were 301.39 per cent more than his known sources of income.
According to ACB officials, the raids on six premises of the ACF last Friday unearthed two cars worth Rs.14.50 lakh, two two-wheelers, 472 grams gold ornaments worth Rs. 19,90,000, 3 kg silver ornaments, furniture valued at Rs. 8,30,000 and Rs. 18,66,500 cash. All worth of movable properties has been put together at Rs. 61,36,500.
Special Task Force launches crackdown against illegal extraction of minor mineral from Tawi
Seizes extracted Sand & Bajri, vehicles involved
JAMMU: To check the menace of illegal extraction of Sand and others minor minerals from the banks of River Tawi and its Tributary, the Special Task Force (STF) constituted by the J&K Government, conducted raids and surprise checks at multiple places in the vicinity of Jammu City.
During the surprise checking, 250 MT Sand, 330 MT Bajri and 210 MT Bolders illegally extracted from River Tawi and dumped for further sale and distribution were seized and handed over to the concerned SHOs on the Superdnama and assessment of the penalty by the Geology and Mining Department under Law.
