LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 6, 2021) American theatre researchers will benefit from the major discovery of correspondence between two of the nation’s most storied playwrights Tennessee Williams and Eugene O’Neill. University of Kentucky Professor Herman Daniel Farrell III, a playwright and noted O’Neill scholar, found the letter while doing research in the archives at Yale University.
The newly discovered letter gives readers an idea of the impact the two celebrated artists had on the other. The correspondence, penned by the critically acclaimed Williams in 1945 not long after the success of his work The Glass Menagerie speaks to his appreciation of a new work of Nobel Prize laureate O’Neill The Iceman Cometh. Williams’ letter expressed admiration for O’Neill’s play describing it as “an unique dramatic achievement.”

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare had a courtesy visit from the Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) yesterday.
MASI president Georgina Kekea thanked the Prime Minister for availing his time to meet with MASI.
Ms Kekea also updated the Prime Minister of the current plans of the MASI Board and the challenges faced by the media industry in the country.
The MASI president also acknowledged the Prime Minister who is also the patron of MASI for recognizing the important role played by the media in the country.

Saturday, Escambia River Electric Cooperative awarded two $4,000 scholarships to local high school seniors.
The Escambia County winner was Libby Pugh from Northview High School (pictured left), and the Santa Rosa County winner was Andrea Moorer from Central High School. The Herman D. Johnson Scholarship Award is offered to graduating seniors with a parent or guardian that is a member of the cooperative..
In the past, capital credits issued by EREC that were unclaimed had to be turned over to the state. But state legislation now allows such funds to be deposited into a qualified, educational charity fund. The EREC membership voted to use these funds in the form of scholarships.

Earlier this month, the MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy graduated its second set of 20 students via a virtual ceremony.
The students, whose course work was extended from 12 months to 18 months due to the pandemic, took a 3-week intensive New York Film Academy (NYFA) course on the production of micro-documentaries, Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and music videos.
They also worked with the United Nations on the global #PledgeToPause campaign which exposed them to global networks, thus walking away with two certificates – one from the prestigious Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) and an equally illustrious qualification from the New York Film Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (NYFA).
