A document released by Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines April 9, “2021 Annual Threat Assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Community,” labels China the greatest threat to the United States.
It claims China’s threat is so serious that an intensifying level of U.S. intelligence operations, cyberattacks and investment in military technology must be organized to counter it. Democrats and Republicans vye in Congress in a push of anti-China legislation requiring multibillion-dollar funding.
A hard line on China is one of the few truly bipartisan efforts occupying the divided U.S. Congress.

GARDENERS HOLD PLANT SALE: The Trumbull County Masters Gardeners will return with their annual plant sale 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Trumbull County Agricultural Center. Masks and a 6-foot physical distance between customers is required. Guests are asked to follow the arrows on the ground and not to enter the sale area until permitted by a volunteer. There will be a vintage garden tent at the event.

The International Seafarers’ Welfare & Assistance Network has, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, decided to raise $1m for seafarers in India and other countries.
ISWAN on its website said, “Leading seafarer welfare charities and shipping industry players have launched an emergency relief fund in order to support seafarers and their families devastated by the rampant COVID-19 pandemic in India and other countries.”
“Seafarers have been the invisible victims of COVID-19, with hundreds of thousands marooned on vessels for months beyond agreed contracts, in some cases.
“Despite suggestions that the crew change crisis was near its end, the escalation of COVID-19 cases in India to more than 400,000 per day has prompted some major ports to prohibit ship crew changes for seafarers with recent travel history to India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
