BENEFIT: The “No Tiger Fights Alone” fundraiser to help Howland High School student Sandra Rose will be held 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Howland Tiger Stadium. Sandra has been battling COVID-19, diabetes and other health issues at the Cleveland Clinic. The fundraiser will include a drive-thru dinner, 50-50 raffle, cornhole, basket raffle and bake sale. Sandra is a junior at the school and a cheerleader. She was moved to a children’s rehabilitation facility earlier this week.
CEMETERY CLEANUP: The Vienna Historical Society will host a cleanup at noon Saturday at Doud Cemetery, located next to state Route 11 off King Graves Road. Those who can help are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Dr. Wun s work is a reflection of her lifelong commitment to ending racial and gender-based violence. Her areas of expertise include community-driven research, violence against women and girls of color, school discipline and punishment. Dr. Wun is the Director of Transformative Research - a research, program evaluation, and training institute that works in partnership with community-based organizations to end racial and gender disparities.
Dr. Wun s message to the next generation of AAPI leaders: Our communities have been survivors of racial violence, gender-based violence, colonial wars for generations and here in the United States and across its territories. We are still surviving a lot of violence. FOOD DONATIONS: Niles Community Services is holding a cereal drive through May 29 at the McKinley Memorial Library in Niles. The effort is to help feed residents of the community. Cereal boxes can be dropped off at the library. All brands of cereal are welcome. Donors are asked to make sure donations are not open or expired.
WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY: The Youngstown Press Club will observe World Press Freedom Day at noon Monday at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center. During the observance, which will be livestreamed on the press club’s Facebook page, press club members will read the names of 50 journalists killed while serving their communities in 2020 and five additional journalists killed this year. The list of journalists slain because of their activities was compiled by the Reporters Without Borders, an international organization dedicated to defending freedom of the press.
