Ravens Meet Demons for Regular Season Finale

It’s the regular season finale tonight for the Hillcrest Academy and Washington boys’ soccer teams when the two squads meet for a non-conference bout in Kalona.  The Demons sit at 9-4 on the season and last had a come from behind 3-2 victory over Columbus on Thursday. Zac Stout has found the back of the net 28 times and that ranks seventh in the state regardless of class. The Ravens are 7-5 and they placed second over the weekend in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference tournament. Noah Miller leads the squad with eight goals.  It is senior night for Hillcrest Academy and they will honor Eli Ours, Dominic Bouse, Will Kolck, Aaron Hershberger, Aidan Yoder, London Schrock, John Hughes, and Johnny Diaz. 

Senior Academic Achievers Selected as 2021 Governor s Scholars | KCII Radio

Iowa’s top academic students were recently chosen by their schools for the 2021 Governor’s Scholar Program. In the KCII-listening area, Sydney Cuddeback of Washington, Isaac Black of Highland, Eryk Hovde of Mid-Prairie, Aidan Yoder of Hillcrest Academy, Owen Watson of Columbus Community, Layne Kiefer of WACO, and Jenna Buffington of Winfield-Mt. Union were all selected. All students will receive a recognition plaque and certificate to commemorate their achievement. This program which began in 2003 and is sponsored by the Governor’s Office, the Iowa High School Athletic Association, and Iowa Farm Bureau invites schools to select the one senior who was the highest academic achiever for their first seven semesters.

Ravens Wrap Up Season in Semis

The Hillcrest Academy boys basketball team’s tournament trail came to a close Thursday night in Troy Mills, falling to No. 1 North Linn 63-30. In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, the Ravens held an early 4-3 lead, but the Lynx 14-2 run helped them to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter and 27-14 advantage at half. It was a tough start to the second half for Hillcrest, starting the third quarter with four straight turnovers while North Linn scored 12 in a row. The Lynx scored 21 total in the frame and led 48-24 going to the fourth. In the final quarter the Lynx enacted the continuous clock as they eliminated the Ravens. After the game, Hillcrest head coach Dwight Gingerich talked about North Linn, his team’s leading scorers and the season. “It felt like at halftime we were within striking distance and still in the game. Their pressure is very tough to replicate. To start the third quarter we were having a hard time getting the ball to half court and finding a teammate out of the
