Bill would use school leftovers to feed students on weekends Published: 4/17/2021 3:00:05 PM State lawmakers are considering a bill that aims to tackle the issues of food waste and childhood hunger by allowing students to eat school lunch leftovers over the weekend. The bill, which has passed the House and is currently in the Senate Education Committee, would permit school districts to partner with a nonprofit organization to freeze leftover food from school and turn them into “TV dinners” that students can take home and eat over the weekend. Rep. Tom Loughman, a Democrat from Hampton, who introduced the bill, HB500, said it was inspired by a school in Elkhart, Ind., that has a similar program.

Nightingale House to bring meals to your door with new delivery service A new frozen and fresh meal delivery service ‘Meals by Caffi Cwtch’ is being launched by Nightingale House Hospice Unable to open during lockdown due to Covid restrictions, the hospice’s Caffi Cwtch, with the help of volunteers, started delivering freshly made delicious meals locally last year. Their current service ‘Meals Matter’ was such a success that it has now expanded its mouth-watering menu and been given a new name – Meals by Caffi Cwtch. Meals can be collected or delivered and the venture will provide much needed funds for hospice patient care.

Unable to open during lockdown due to Covid restrictions, Nightingale House Hospice’s Caffi Cwtch, with the help of volunteers, started delivering freshly made delicious meals locally. Their current service ‘Meals Matter’ was such a success that it has now expanded its mouth-watering menu and been given a new name – Meals by Caffi Cwtch. Meals can be collected or delivered and the venture will provide much needed funds for hospice patient care. A wide range of fresh and frozen meals are available including nine new main dishes by Caffi Cwtch award winning Head Chef, Peter Jackson. Menu specials include fresh fish and chips and a tapas selection.
