Diana Irey Vaughan knew Peg Wilson quite well and for quite a while. Irey Vaughan has been a Washington County commissioner since 1995, about the time Wilson became involved with the Greater Washington County Food Bank.
They worked together on a number of initiatives, and fostered a mutual respect that endures with the commissioners chair.
âPeg cared very deeply about her community,â Irey Vaughan said Thursday afternoon. âShe worked very hard in her mission to eliminate food insecurity and built a great number of partnerships.â
Margaret Jean Wilson, 91, board president of the Centerville-based food bank, died on Sunday at Premier Washington Health Center. She also was a longtime political figure, serving on state and county Democratic committees, including time on the latterâs executive board.

HATFIELD The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts will be moving from its longtime headquarters in Hatfield to a new location in Chicopee.
The Food Bank in December acquired 16.5 acres of vacant land at the Chicopee River Business Park, at the corner of East Main and Carew streets, from Westmass Area Development Corp., for $449,235, with the intent to move to a newly constructed building there in the next year or two following a capital campaign. The nonprofit organization serves Hamsphire, Hampden, Franklin and Berkshire counties.
Food Bank of the GC Pausing Mobile Operations
The Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, which serves 11 counties and 5 million meals a year to the Crossroads has had to delay mobile operations due to positive COVID testing results within the FBGC administration community.
The FBGC working along with their board and local health institutions, concluded they would have to postpone operations, like their mobile units, until January 25th.
Mobile units that were scheduled for January 15th through the 21st have been postponed. The mobile units scheduled for Jan.15th, 18th, 20th, and 21st will be rescheduled while agencies that work with the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent
Food banks team up to open large distribution center in Norwalk

Two major Connecticut food banks teamed up to open a distribution center in Norwalk Wednesday.
Connecticut Food Bank and Foodshare paired up Wednesday to launch a food distribution site at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk.
Connecticut Food Bank Board member Wes Higgins estimates, there has been a 40% increase of those in need of food in Connecticut, which could be as many as 800,000 people out of the 3.6 million in the state.
Together, the two organizations distribute close to 4 million pounds of food a per month through the agencies they work with.
