With Easter approaching, the meal-providing outreach group is gearing up for a Sunday meal program and a Saturday flea market, falling on the week of the program’s one year anniversary. Glenn Hilke, who has worked in the non-profit sector for over 40 years, started the program on March 28 last year when food programs started to reduce their services due to public health orders. “It’s been the most amazing project I’ve ever worked on,” Hilke said. “I’ve never worked on a project completely dependent on goodwill and generosity, and its success is an extraordinary example of community organizing and compassion. Anita Gupta, a physician and researcher at IUPUI and the Communication, Community, and Public Relations Chair for the Hindu Temple of Central Indiana, says that their food distribution event today, Saturday March 13, is an extension of Hindu values of service that promotes the intersection between religion, culture and the humanities.  “As people are still trying to recover from this pandemic,” she says, “and trying to find jobs to help bring food to the table for their loved ones, we feel that this service will help them at least enjoy a good meal without thinking where the next meal will come from.”
