Achieving goal of Mainers eating 30% locally sourced foods will require fundamental changes to food system

After importing travel-weary produce from farms out West, Good Shepherd Food Bank attempted to meet the growing demand with supply from struggling Maine farmers. Then they loaded up their truck with their malted barley, an essential ingredient in beer, and contacted every craft brewery in Maine.

YWCA Central Maine to launch Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge

Read Article LEWISTON YWCA Central Maine will join YWCAs nationwide in launching the 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge on Monday, March 1, as part of a national movement to engage communities in anti-racist work. Participants will receive a daily email directing them to three or four curated activities such as reading an article, listening to a podcast, watching a video or reflecting on their personal experiences. Each activity is designed to foster greater understanding and awareness, and challenge participants to confront their own understandings and take action toward the advancement of racial equity. Taking part in an activity helps participants discover how racial inequity and social injustice impact the community, connect with others, and identify ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination. The challenge will begin March 1 and continue Monday to Friday, through Monday, March 29. All content is newly curated by YWCA for this year to include
