NEW DELHI: Counting of votes for District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu & Kashmir began Tuesday morning at 9 am.
Voting was held in eight phases starting from November 28 to December 19 with 2,178 candidates in the fray for 280 DDC seats. The tier-3 election of the Panchayati Raj system was J&K s first-ever DDC elections after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

Re-polling in four polling stations in Jammu and Kashmir’s Mendhar area of border Poonch district opened on a brisk note on Monday, with nearly 22 per cent of the electorate having cast their vote in the maiden District Development Council (DDC) polls during the first two hours.
