Mmany Panchayats have launched help desks and war rooms to keep track of bed occupancy and oxygen availability With Kerala decentralising its COVID-19 management strategy, enterprising local bodies have gone beyond predetermined guidelines to set innovative examples to help contain the coronavirus spread.
While many Panchayats have launched help desks and war rooms to keep track of bed occupancy and oxygen availability, some have brought private entities together for the benefit of the local populace.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With Kerala s positive cases touching nearly 42,000 on Saturday and over four lakh people undergoing treatment for the virus, the Kerala government decided to form ward level committees in each panchayat to ensure proper Covid-19 treatment activities.
The state was facing more challenges in the present second wave, as the pathogen strain was more virulent and was spreading fast, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters here.
He said the role played by local governments in controlling and preventing the first wave of the Covid outbreak was unparalleled. During this second phase also, they have an important proactive role to play by being at the forefront of Covid prevention, he said.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With Kerala recording 37,199 Covid-19 cases on Friday, pushing the total caseload to 15.71 lakh and active cases to over three lakh, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government may have to consider imposing complete lockdown in districts reporting high cases. In districts where severe spread of the infection is reported, we may have to think of imposing a complete lockdown, he told reporters here.
However, a decision has not yet been taken on which districts would be imposed, he said.
