LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – It may have been cloudy on Monday, but students at the La Crosse School District embraced the power of the sun.
Summit Environmental School on French Island received a portable solar energy panel and charger thanks to a donation from the organization Solar on La Crosse Schools.
It will be used for things like outdoor lessons and field trips.
One fifth grade teacher said she’s excited to show students how it works, especially for their overnight campout.
“I can take my fifth graders and we have a ‘walking taco’ for instance for dinner. I usually brown the meat inside the school beforehand and come out with it. Now, I’m actually able to brown the meat outside with the students and explain how the energy from the sun was given to us all day and now converted into electricity we can use,” said Erica Rasmussen
