Ex-Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang and nine accomplices were brought to trial on January 7 for violations at the ministry and in Ho Chi Minh City that caused losses of some US$118 million.

The first-instance trial was held by the Hanoi People’s Court.
Hoang, born in 1953, and Phan Chi Dung, born in 1957 and the former Director of the Light Industry Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), faced a charge of “violating regulations on the management and use of State assets, causing losses and wastefulness”.
The eight other defendants, who are former HCM City officials, including Nguyen Huu Tin, born in 1957 and the former Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, were accused of “violating regulations on land management”.

Hanoi â The first-instance trial for ex-Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang and nine accomplices, slated for on July 7, was postponed due to the absence of three defendants and many people with related interests and obligations.
The jury at the Hanoi Peopleâs Court asked relevant agencies to ensure all defendants and related people will be present once the trial is re-opened.
Organising boards of localities were asked to popularise values of traditional
customs and rituals, pandemic prevention and control measures, and limit the
organisation of large-scale events.
The city will establish an inter-sectoral group to
inspect festivals and launch the hotline 0869.295538 for public feedback.
Due to the pandemic, last year Hanoi only held 139
out of 1,206 festivals./. VNA

Lam Dong (VNA) - A delegation led by Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation, paid a visit to children, policy beneficiary families, and poor and disadvantaged ethnic minority people in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on January 7, on the threshold of the Lunar New Year (Tet).
Some 210 gift sets worth 1 million VND (43 USD) each were presented to beneficiary families and people in Don Duong district who rendered service to the nation.
