Coal Grove woman sentenced in drug case

IRONTON â A Coal Grove woman who admitted cutting off an ankle monitor and swallowing suspected drugs was sentenced to nearly five years in prison Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court. Kaye McKenzie, 32, of High Street, Coal Grove, pleaded guilty to two counts of tampering with evidence, felony vandalism and admitted violating community control sanctions. Judge Andy Ballard sentenced her to two years in prison on each of the tampering charges and 11 months in prison for vandalism by cutting off the ankle monitor. The sentences are to run consecutively. McKenzie also was sentenced to six months in prison for violating community control sanctions, but that sentence is to run concurrent with the other sentences.

8 people arrested at raucous house party in Providence PROVIDENCE Police arrested eight people while trying to break up a loud, large house party that had spilled out onto Eastwood Avenue early Saturday morning. A call for people fighting in the street brought officers to 230 Eastwood Ave. in the Hartford section of Providence around 2:30 a.m., according to a police report provided by Cmdr. Thomas Verdi. When officers arrived, they found music blaring from the house, several people gathered in the street and a couch blocking the front of the building, preventing them from getting inside, the report said. A 23-year-old man was yelling at officers from the street and claiming police harassment.

According to Detroit police, at about 1 a.m. Saturday, the body of an unidentified man was found laying on the side of the road in the area of Eastwood Avenue and Runyon Street. The unidentified man reportedly suffered from a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene, officials said. No other details have been provided. Detroit police say they don’t have an suspects as of early Saturday afternoon.
