Mid-Canterbury Rugby's boss has promised some terse conversations with council heads if money is poured into the Christchurch stadium at the expense of local developments.
About a third of those who presented in person made mention of the long-delayed bridge project, with the proposed location of Chalmers Ave continuing to be a sore point among many in the community. Many concerns about the proposed location centred on the bridge running through a largely residential area, public safety and heavy vehicle driving routes. The floundering venture, which was reportedly earmarked for 2026 by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (NZTA), had now become a matter of significant urgency according to rural leaders. Federated Farmers’ Mid-Canterbury president David Clark said the “Auckland-styled traffic jams” being experienced in the district made the project a high priority.
