More than 1,000 people who attended consultations on plans to erect dozens of retirement living apartments in Kendal said they were in support of the scheme. McCarthy and Stone, which develops and manages retirement communities, submitted a planning application to South Lakeland District Council in December to redevelop the Porsche Centre on land off Shap Road, Kendal, with 55 retirement living apartments. Prior to submitting its planning application, the company carried out a public consultation with the local community on its early proposals, including a virtual exhibition in November and early December. More than 2,000 residents, businesses and stakeholders were invited, and consultations revealed that 59 per cent of those who attended were in favour of the development, 27 per cent were opposed and 14 per cent expressed neutral views.

A close friend of Kate, the woman who accused Christian Porter of rape, has spoken publicly for the first time, saying he has information about Kate’s allegation he would like to share with an independent inquiry into Porter’s suitability to hold the role of attorney-general.
James Hooke first met Kate months after the alleged incident in mid-1988 at national debating competitions. The pair were romantically involved about a year later and remained friends throughout Kate’ life.
Hooke also met Porter several times across the 1990s. Kate died by suicide last year after telling the NSW Police and friends about her allegations in 2019. The attorney-general has vehemently denied the allegations.
